This is a small, community-minded website. This page explains, in plain language, what information the site collects, why, who else handles it, and how you can ask us to change or remove it.
Who runs this site
SanPedroLaLaguna.earth is run by its editor, who lives part of the year in San Pedro La Laguna. You can reach us at contact@sanpedrolalaguna.earth. We do not sell personal information.
What we collect, and why
1. When you visit the site
Like most websites, the server that hosts the site records technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We also use a visitor-statistics tool (WP Statistics) to count visits and see which pages are used. It records the page viewed, the site you came from, your browser and device type, and an approximate location (country or city) worked out from your IP address. IP addresses are anonymized: the last part of each address is masked before it is stored. We use this only to understand how the site is used and to keep it running.
2. Business listings
Businesses are listed only with the owner’s permission. A listing can include the business name, what it does, an address or landmark, hours, a phone or WhatsApp number, languages spoken, other contact links, and photos. This information is published on the site so that people can find the business. Photos of people are used only with their consent. Owners can ask us to change or remove a listing at any time.
If you list your business using our form, we also keep the name, email address and phone number of the person who sent it, so we can reach you about the listing. These are not published. If you start the form and use “Save and finish later,” we keep what you typed for 60 days and then delete it.
3. Community Bulletin Board posts
If you post on the Community Bulletin Board, the form asks for your name, your email address, a title, a category, the text of your post, and up to three images. The title, text, category and images are published. The name you enter may be shown with your post. Your email address is never published. It is used so that people who want to reply can send you a message through a form on the post. They do not see your address, and the message is delivered to your email, where you can answer directly. Posts are normally taken down within about a week, or the day after an event. Tell us if you want one taken down sooner.
If you use the “Contact the poster” form, the name (optional), email address and message you type are sent to the poster by email. We do not keep a copy on the site, but the message passes through our email-delivery service (see below).
4. When you email us
If you write to contact@sanpedrolalaguna.earth, we receive your email address and whatever you tell us, and use it to reply.
5. Comments
Comments are turned off on this site.
Other services that handle some information
- Email delivery. Emails the site sends (for example, notices of a message to a bulletin board poster, or form notifications) are delivered through Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), an email service provider. Brevo handles the content of those emails and the addresses involved.
- Translation. If you pick another language with the language selector, the page text is sent to Google Translate through the GTranslate plugin so it can be translated. Google’s privacy policy applies to that. The selector may set a small cookie to remember your language choice. Translations are automatic and may contain mistakes.
- Website hosting and backups. The site’s files and data, including form entries, are stored with our hosting provider and in backups kept by the site’s operator.
- Social sharing buttons. The site has buttons for sharing pages on social networks. If you click one, you will go to that network, which has its own privacy rules.
Cookies
We use few cookies. Choosing a language may set one. Forms may use brief technical cookies or checks to block spam. People who edit the site have login cookies. We do not use advertising cookies.
How long we keep information
- Bulletin Board posts: normally about a week, or the day after an event.
- Business listings: until the owner asks us to change or remove them, or until we confirm the business has closed.
- Visit statistics and server records: kept for a limited time and then cleared.
- Backups may hold older copies for a short period after something is deleted.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, by emailing contact@sanpedrolalaguna.earth. Please tell us which post, listing or sign-up it concerns. We will reply as soon as we can. You can also use your browser settings to block or delete cookies.
Children
This site is for a general audience and is not aimed at children. Please do not submit personal information about a child without a parent’s or guardian’s permission.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the site, but no website can promise complete security. Please do not post anything sensitive on the Bulletin Board.
Changes to this page
If we change what the site collects, we will update this page and its date.
